Christopher Lee Wins 4th Golden Bell Award, Now Has More Golden Bell Awards Than Star Awards For Acting

There’s no doubt Christopher Lee, 53, is one of the best actors in Singapore and Taiwan.

At the Golden Bell Awards last Saturday (Oct 19), he was named Best Leading Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film for his role as an attorney of indigenous Amis ethnicity in 2023 legal drama, Port of Lies

The awards are often referred to as Taiwan’s equivalent of the Emmys. His win marks his fourth Golden Bell Award.

Chris also beat out his younger brother, Frederick Lee, 48, who was nominated in the same category for his role as a monument restorer in TV movie, Night Blindness

After accepting his award, Chris did not forget to give a shout-out to Frederick, saying: “He’s always been very supportive of me. Now that I’ve won, I’m sure he’s very happy for me.”

He also revealed that he will be giving the NT$100K (S$4000) cash prize to Frederick as a “wedding ang pow”. Frederick tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Jess in September and they will be holding their wedding ceremony soon.

Chris now has more Golden Bell Awards than Star Awards for acting.

In 2014, Chris won his first Golden Bell Award for Best Leading Actor in a Television Series for his performance as a depressed workaholic in the family drama A Good Wife (2013).

He bagged his second Golden Bell Award in 2021, this time in the Best Leading Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film category, for his role as a construction worker in 2020 Taiwanese series Workers

The next year, he won Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series for playing a detective in crime thriller Danger Zone.

In short, Chris has a really impressive track record at the Golden Bell Awards. He has won four out of the six times he’s been nominated and is now considered one of the most-lauded stars in Golden Bell Awards history.

In contrast, Chris has been nominated 14 times for acting at the Star Awards but has won just twice.

He nabbed his first Best Actor trophy in 1997 for his performance as a war traitor in The Price of Peace and got his second Best Actor in 2013 for his role as a compulsive gambler in Show Hand

Surely, Chris is due for another Star Award in acting?
