Taiwanese girl group S.H.E, which consists of members Selina Jen, 42, Hebe Tien, 40, and Ella Chen, 42, are known to have one of the most solid friendships in showbiz.
But have things secretly gone awry between the members no thanks to the men in their lives?
Recently, reports claimed that Ella’s 47-year-old Malaysian husband Alvin Lai, who’s been her manager since 2018, had backstabbed Hebe so that Ella could be the only female lead for a new movie that the two women were to play best friends.
Alvin allegedly advised the production team to drop Hebe because of that one scandal in which she was accused by Chinese netizens of being pro-Taiwan independence when she posted pics of herself eating pasta during Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
Alvin was said to have suggested that Hebe’s involvement may cause the film to be banned in China.
In response to the allegations, Ella and Alvin’s agency EHalo Entertainment CO told the media: “None of that happened. We’ve never been asked to be part of anything. Also, can we ask, what movie are you talking about?”
That’s not all.
According to Taiwanese media, Alvin has been accused of being arrogant and has offended many people while managing Ella. Rumours claim that Ella’s executive manager and assistant have quit because of him.
Another rumour alleges that Ella once auditioned for a movie at the behest of a friend. Alvin, however, snarked: “My wife is Ella. They should be sending us their scripts while we decide if she wants to take on the role or not” before rejecting the offer.
His statement appalled the producers, who scorned: “Even seasoned actors like Chang Chen have to go for auditions, let alone Ella, who’s still trying to make a name for herself in the movie industry?”
Lastly, when Ella was filming 2019 comedy film Big Three Dragons, reports at that time claimed that Alvin treated the driver the crew hired for Ella as his personal chauffeur.
