A 50-year-old man stabbed his neighbour to death before chasing the victim’s wife with a knife at Block 311B Clementi Avenue 4 on Monday, 21 October 2024, around 5 PM.
Police found a 41-year-old victim unconscious at the ground floor of the HDB block. He was rushed to the hospital but died from his injuries.
The suspect, also a grassroots volunteer like the victim who served as the Residents’ Network vice-chairman, had a history of quarrels with the victim.
What Happened Before the Incident
At about 5 PM, the two men reportedly got into an argument at the drop-off point.
The suspect then chased the victim with a knife. Though the victim initially pushed him away, the suspect caught up and stabbed him.
After the stabbing, the suspect turned his attention to the victim’s wife. She managed to escape by hiding in a childcare center.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, a resident heard shouts for someone to call an ambulance. Looking out her window, she saw a man lying in a pool of blood while the suspect chased a woman in red clothing into the car park.
Another resident captured videos showing the suspect confronting a male member of the public at a nearby playground, frightening onlookers. The suspect appeared injured with a bleeding hand.
Despite attempts by several residents to calm him down, the suspect got into his car and drove into the multi-story car park, ramming into the victim’s vehicle.
Police arrested the suspect when he tried to leave the car park. Officers blocked the exit with their patrol car, and the suspect surrendered without resistance.
MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC Sim Ann visited the scene at 7:45 PM. She later posted on Facebook about meeting the victim’s family, who requested privacy.
Sim Ann also thanked witnesses for their help and urged residents to wait for further updates instead of speculating.
