Arranged marriages may sound like such an absurd concept in this day and age but for 54-year-old Hong Kong actor Gill Mohindepaul Singh, better known as Q Bobo, that’s how he met his wife more than three decades ago.
In the recent episode of TVB variety show The Drunken Scotland, the former TVB actor, who moved to Scotland in 2013, shared that his wife of 34 years was actually ‘selected’ by his parents.
Q Bobo, who was born and bred in Hong Kong, agreed to an arranged marriage out of respect for his parents and to follow Indian tradition.
His parents had found three ladies for him to choose from, one of whom is his current wife.
They got married in 1988 when Q Bobo was only 19, and the couple went on to have two sons, now aged 33 and 21.
His eldest son currently has two kids, a two-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter, making Q Bobo a grandpa-of-two.
Q Bobo, who now runs an Indian restaurant in Scotland, also shared that India has one of the lowest divorce rates in the world.
“All my brothers and sisters went through arranged [marriages] and we’re all so happy now,” he said.
