If you thought Chinese star Jia Lin’s 50kg-weight loss for her movie last year was impressive, wait till you see former TVB actress Chan Ka Kai’s dramatic transformation.
Two years ago, health concerns prompted Ka Kai, popularly known as Sai Sai Lup (or ‘puny’ in Cantonese) from 2013 TVB series Inbound Troubles, to start her weight loss journey.
And in just a year, the actress, who once weighed 286 pounds (around 130kg) at her heaviest, achieved her weight goal of 130 pounds (59kg).
Yes, she dropped a whopping 91kg and finally lives up to the moniker Sai Sai Lup.
The 39-year-old not only transformed her appearance but also significantly improved her health.
Last March, she shared her medical examination results revealing she no longer has high blood sugar, high blood pressure, triglycerides, cholesterol, or fatty liver.
Earlier this week, she celebrated the one-year anniversary of her weight loss by sharing a photo revealing her waistline on Instagram.
“I can finally show my waist! This summer, I should be able to wear the waist-revealing swimsuit I’ve always dreamed of,” she wrote.
Despite achieving her target, she has set a new slimming goal to shed another 30 pounds (13.6kg) in 2025.
“Honestly, my waist is still quite thick,” she said.
In a previous interview with HK01, Sai Sai Lup shared her weight loss tips, stressing the importance of portion control and meal sequencing.
For a meal, she eats 50 per cent vegetables first (no starchy veggies like potato and lotus root), 35-40 per cent protein such seafood, beef, lean pork, lamb, and fish, and 10-15 per cent carbs. She prefers sweet potatoes, corn, or quinoa, or konjac noodles over refined starches like white rice, white bread, or noodles.
For dinner, she avoids carbs as much as possible, opting for crackers if she gets too hungry.
Even fruits, which seem healthy, are limited to 100g.
Additionally, she avoids sugary and oily food like fried snacks, sweet and sour pork, as well as plain congee, and dishes with starchy sauces such as mapo tofu.
Her dedication and discipline have earned her significant praise online, though many netizens also reminded her not to overdo it.
After leaving TVB in 2022, Sai Sai Lup focused on her career in China and has gained massive popularity through live streaming and food-related content.
Her work often required her to eat large quantities of food during live broadcasts, which caused her weight to skyrocket.
