What is your first thought when you see a crowd of people, in this instance, children, excitedly cheering the appearance of the train?
For 8days.sg, we instinctively wondered if a delayed train had finally arrived.
Thankfully, no. Instead, the kids were among the first passengers taking a trip from the new Punggol Coast MRT station.
In a video that has since gone viral, they were seen happily screaming as the train arrived, with some clutching on to train model freebies given out earlier as they boarded.
Fellow commuters were also seen filming the cute scene and the netizen who posted the video said the kids were “hyping for every single train that arrived at the platform.”
Some couldn’t understand the fuss.
One wondered if the kids “lived in a kampung”.
Why so snarky when such a simple event brought them so much joy?
Another commented that this was the sort of energy needed at sporting events.
Well, if only parents and teachers knew that a new MRT station could elicit such excitement, would school excursions still be a thing?
The Punggol Coast MRT station opened on Tuesday (Dec 10) at 3pm, bringing the total number of stations to 17 on the 22km North East Line (NEL).
With the new station, commutes to the city centre will now take passengers about 45 minutes to travel from Punggol North to Outram Park, down from an hour’s journey previously.
But the real question is, will the kids be even more excited about the shorter commutes?
