Photofairs organiser Creo has scrapped plans for a Hong Kong version of the contemporary art fair for photography in March 2025, citing logistical issues, the Post has learned.
The Hong Kong fair was announced in July by London-based Creo, shortly after the cancellation of Photofairs New York, and was seen as a vote of confidence in the city’s art market despite a recent slump.
As its name suggests, the art fair specialises in photography and video, and was first held in Shanghai in 2014 to capture a less developed but more accessible segment of the art market.
In a statement, Creo said: “We have received great interest and engagement in Photofairs Hong Kong from our partners, local and international galleries, and the wider arts community. However, in light of recent logistical constraints, we are unable to hold the fair next year.”

It did not respond when asked if there are plans to revive the Hong Kong launch at a later date.
In June, the company put its New York fair on hold “until market conditions improved” after launching it in 2023. It previously held an edition in San Francisco in 2017-18.
