From viral ke mu san dances to their very own boyband, no one can say hotpot chain Haidilao is boring.
Now, even the traditional bian lian aka face-changing performance at Haidilao’s Paya Lebar Quarter outlet got a ‘facelift’ to keep up with the latest trends.
By incorporating a Labubu mask.
Content creator Celine Ong shared on TikTok a bian lian performance at HDL PLQ on Sunday (Dec 15) during which the performer started with a plain blue mask before dramatically switching to one featuring a Labubu design.
“I died when I saw what came out,” she wrote in the caption.
Derived from Sichuan opera, bian lian sees the performer switching masks almost instantaneously with a fan swipe. It has been a staple at Haidilao since 2013 but not the Labubu version.
When 8days.sg reached out to Celine, she said she was just having dinner and decided to film the act when the performer came out. She didn’t expect to see the performer face change into a Labubu and she laughed so loudly she had to mute her laughter with the Labubu song in the video.
However, if you are looking to catch the performer switch out to his Labubu mask, you are out of luck.
According to a Haidilao rep, only one outlet has performed the hilarious set and they have no plans to bring it back.
