While most families happily gather for reunion dinner on Lunar New Year’s Eve, this wasn’t the case for popular Malaysian singer Nick Chung.
The 43-year-old took to social media on Sunday (Feb 11) to share that his father had fallen into a coma after suffering a serious asthma attack.
The asthma was triggered by accidentally inhaling smoke from a fireworks show.
“He suddenly had difficulty breathing. His body turned purple and became stiff and cold and we decided to get him to the hospital quickly,” wrote Nick.
The singer detailed how his father’s heart stopped twice though doctors managed to get it beating again after performing CPR.
According to Nick, the family has been at the hospital every day as his dad is now being “kept alive” by machines and is in a coma.
“It’s really sad. I hope a miracle will happen,” he wrote, adding that doctors have said that everything “depends on whether [his father] has the willpower to persevere.”
“Remember to tell your parents “I love you” and don’t forget to take pictures with them. There are so many things I want to say to my dad right now, but I can’t,” wrote Nick.
On Wednesday (Feb 14), Nick posted an undated picture of the family with presents.
“Dad, we must have you every holiday with the family. It has been five days and it’s time to wake up! Keep fighting! There are more holidays with us waiting for you this year.”
Netizens responded with comments of encouragement for Nick and his family in the posts.
“Come on Father Zong, you will get better!’ wrote one user.
Another commented, “You must wake up soon!”
