The Korean Red Cross announced on Monday (Jul 29) that K-pop group (G)I-dle has donated 50 million won (US$36,100) in aid of flood recovery efforts in South Korea.
The organisation has been involved in nationwide emergency relief and recovery activities since heavy rains severely affected various regions in South Korea on Jul 8.
“(G)I-dle’s support will be a great comfort and strength for those affected by the flood,” said Korean Red Cross chairman, Kim Chul-soo.
The group’s members Soyeon, Miyeon, Yuqi, Shuhua and Minnie each donated 10 million won to the flood damage repairs efforts.
On the donation, the quintet said: “We hope that disaster victims find comfort and can return to their daily lives as soon as possible through the humanitarian activities of the Red Cross.”
The donation comes 10 days after the quintet came under fire for misappropriating the Red Cross symbol representative of the humanitarian organisation. The girl band donned lifeguard-themed outfits on the South Korean music show Music Bank to perform their latest track Klaxon.
