Is there an age limit for 80 for competitive sports?
The answer is no for Hannah Quinlivan’s grandfather, Laurence Quinlivan, who is the Secretary of the Australian Friends of Taiwan Association.
The 90-year-old recently participated in the 21st Evergreen International Athletics Championship held in Taipei, winning first place in the 100m sprint with an impressive 20.53secs.
Mandopop king and grandson-in-law Jay Chou posted a video to Instagram Stories showing Laurence struggling to sprint past his competitor towards the finish line as his song, ‘Dream’, playing in the background.
Quite apt, considering the lyrics had Jay sing, “Come on, go, go, go, let the dream restart, different sweat flows with different dreams,”
According to the event website, the race also featured two other runners who are 85.
Other than the 100m sprint, Laurence also participated in the shot-put event — a sport for which he won many awards during his younger years.
In fact, Laurence joked that he had broken his personal record when he took part in shot put event last year.
