Most dads, regardless of how busy they are, would want to be there for the birth of their kids.

But not only was Hong Kong actor Jacky Heung not by his wife Taiwanese actress Bea Hayden’s side when she gave birth to their son Isa, he only saw the kid when he was seven months old.

The couple also have a three-year-old daughter, Cora.

Isa turned two on June 18 and Jacky, who is the son of film producer Charles Heung and Tiffany Chen, took to Weibo to send his birthday wishes to his boy.

In his post, Jacky apologised for not being able to celebrate Isa’s birthday and that he feels “regretful” about not being able to see the boy often.

“Due to certain factors, I couldn’t come to Taiwan when Bea was pregnant. I only saw you for the first time when you were seven months old,” wrote Jacky.

He promised to spend more time with Isa and “do boyish things” in the future when he is “less busy”.

Jacky’s post sparked criticism, with many questioning if he loves his kids.

“It’s absurd, seeing your own child for the first time at seven months,” commented one netizen. Another said: “No wonder women get postpartum depression.”

A third asked: “How busy can you be? Even the country’s Prime Minister isn’t this busy.”
