Huge Shark Spotted In Singapore Waters By Group Of People Offshore Fishing

Here’s a question for Singaporeans who go offshore fishing: How often do you get to see a big shark in local waters?

A video posted by TikTok user @nelnas78 yesterday (Jul 24), documented what we would presume was their biggest and possibly scariest sighting of the night.

At the beginning of the clip, a man is seen tugging forcefully at his fishing line. The camera then pans to the water, and a clear figure of a shark, the size of a small boat, was seen thrashing back and forth.

The men in the boat remained calm, and it was revealed in the caption that the shark was eventually released.

Funnily, the background music accompanying the video was the inescapable kid’s song ‘Baby Shark’. Though if you ask us, there wasn’t anything remotely baby about that particular shark.

The video caught the attention of many netizens, sparking a discussion as to whether the group had encountered a bull shark or a nurse shark.

Some said that it wasn’t uncommon at all to see a bull shark in Singapore waters, while others believed it to be a nurse shark as “the fins looked too long”.

Responding to a comment, @nelnas78 revealed that the encounter took place at the Southern part of Singapore waters.

“My dad said sharks like that have always been in SG waters. He used to live by the sea at Pasir Panjang Kampung, so when [he rows] the boat out to sea, sure will see one,” wrote one netizen.

A handful of people were shocked to see the size of the shark, saying it’s “scary”, while many others believed that sharks of this kind generally remain docile unless antagonised.

One netizen also said that the spotting of the sea creature is a sign that “nature is healing” after the recent oil spill.

Anyone keen on going offshore fishing after watching this TikTok?
