Hwa Chong Student Wears .7K Dior Sneakers In School Scholarship Poster

And we thought wearing Adidas shoes to school is considered high SES already.

Recently, local content page robinhoot.sg took to Instagram to share a picture of a poster put up by Hwa Chong International School (HCIS).

The words on the poster read: “Application for HCIS Scholarships is Now Open” with the hashtag #ExperienceHCIS.

The poster also showed a female student in the HCIS uniform posing with her arms crossed.

Everything seemed perfectly normal until one zeros in on the pair of shoes the girl was wearing.

The shoes turned out to be a pair of gray oblique Dior Vibe sneakers currently retailing at $1,690 on the Dior website.

Netizens were amused by how expensive the student’s footwear was, with many pointing out that it makes sense given that she is attending an international school.

For reference, based on their website, school fees for HCIS Year One to Year Three students are $30,520 per annum. For Year Four, International Baccalaureate 1 and International Baccalaureate 2 students, the school feels are $34,880 per annum.

Students also have to pay a $708.50 admission administrative fee, $6,000 tuition security deposit, $5,450 tuition acceptance fee as well as other miscellaneous fees.

“That’s the whole idea of an international school… to attract children of the wealthy,” snarked one netizen.

Our question now is, do these kids even need a scholarship?
