Chen Liping and Lin Ruping attended the Seniors’ Connect @ Kovan Hub event on March 23, where the former ended up reminiscing with PM Lawrence Wong about his childhood.
One of the highlights of the event was when the local actresses performed the iconic Good Morning, Sir! theme song, the 1989 drama series so synonymous with Liping, she incorporated it into her Instagram user name (@aiyoyochenliping).
Liping took to Instagram yesterday (Mar 24) to share snippets from her time at the event. She penned: “Truly honoured to perform the song 早安老师 (Good Morning, Sir!) for our seniors. They’ve watched me grow up with them.”
She also included a clip of herself and Ruping, 74, having a conversation with PM Wong.
While locked in a handshake with Liping, PM Wong, 52, was heard saying: “I grew up watching you [on TV].”
Liping, 59, let out a boisterous laugh before she quipped: “You watched me growing up? I was still a kid back then.”
PM Wong then revealed that he was a fan of the classic Chinese series Good Morning, Sir!, which aired 36 years ago. It was one of Liping’s earlier works, and she’d snagged the leading role — the iconic “Aiyoyo teacher” Shen Rong — four years into her showbiz career.
It looks like Good Morning, Sir! isn’t a core memory for PM Wong only. Many netizens shared the same sentiments, and some pointed out that the theme song “really raised a generation”. Talk about a trip down memory lane.
