Do you know that local influencer Naomi Neo owns a Japanese restaurant?
If you don’t know, now you know.
A break-in occurred at Shinrai, a Japanese restaurant owned by Naomi Neo, on 3 December 2024.
The incident took place at the restaurant located on Telok Ayer Street, resulting in the theft of approximately $3,400 from the cash register.
Here’s what happened.
Burglary Caught on CCTV
Naomi Neo shared details of the incident on her Instagram stories, posting footage from security cameras showing a man opening the cash register and taking cash.
Accompanying the video, she wrote, “Wish this was actually a joke,” and posted images of the restaurant, including a damaged door knob and a wiped-out cash register.
Naomi Neo shared additional footage showing the police conducting investigations at the scene to dispel rumors that the break-in was a staged prank.
The reason for that? She’s also known for playing pranks for content, so some people might think that this is just one of the pranks.
The police were alerted to the burglary around 10.20pm on the night of the incident.
Officers from the Central Police Division swiftly launched an investigation using footage from the restaurant’s CCTV cameras and police cameras in the area.
By 4 December, a 23-year-old suspect was arrested, and $2,400 of the stolen cash was recovered.
Suspect Charged and Security Advice Issued
The suspect has been charged under Section 451 of the Penal Code 1871, which covers housebreaking and theft. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
The police have advised property owners to take precautions to prevent thefts. This includes securing doors, windows, and gates, avoiding leaving large sums of cash unattended, and ensuring that security systems like CCTV cameras and alarms are installed and functioning properly.
