Earlier this month, Heavenly King Jacky Cheung was forced to cancel concerts on his 60+ Tour World Tour for the fourth time due to health issues.
The three Guangzhou shows were scheduled for March 7 to 9 and he resumed performances in the city on March 15.
Though the 63-year-old was still recovering from a cold, he delivered a spectacular performance, earning widespread praise for his professionalism.
Appearing on stage with a handkerchief and occasionally wiping his nose, Jacky greeted the audience with his trademark humour: “How are my friends in Guangzhou? I’m just so-so!”
He apologised for cancelling three shows and said that not being able to sing felt “worse than death”.
He admitted that his voice was a bit “sexy” and asked the audience to be understanding of his condition.
“I hope everyone will enjoy the performance as if they were watching Jacky Cheung impersonating Jacky Cheung,” he said to laughter from the audience.
“If the impersonation is good, please give me some applause!”
And if he doesn’t sound quite right, well, it isn’t the “official version” but the “cold-stricken Jacky Cheung”, he added.
Netizens were tickled by his remarks, with one commenting: “The way he wipes his nose and stuffs his handkerchief shows that Jacky is truly relaxed and doesn’t treat the audience as outsiders.”
That must be the case ‘cos he was even seen wiping his mucus on his clothes
