Japanese Designer Creates “Pigeon Heels” That Look Like The Real Thing — So She Could Be “Popular Among Pigeons”

Keiko Otsuhata, a designer from Japan, has received plenty of attention online for one very interesting avian-inspired creation.

Known for creating whimsical art and sculptures that draw inspiration from animals such as dogs, cats, bears, and rabbits, Keiko has now designed a pair of shoes made to look like pigeons.

She sketched the design, carved the pigeons’ bodies from scratch out of styrofoam, then painstakingly attached wool and cloth to its surface before gluing them to a pair of black heels. She even used wires and red wool to form the pigeons’ legs.

“I want to make high heels like pigeons and become popular among pigeons,” said Keiko, who has named the pigeon shoes ‘Hato Hiru’ — a play on the Japanese terms ‘hato’ (pigeon) and ‘hai hiru’ (high heels).

Props to Keiko for her finished product which really resembles the actual birds.

While the pigeons did not appear to be big fans of their lookalike footwear, Keiko’s creation was a hit among netizens.

“The real pigeons must have gotten the shock of their lives,” joked one netizen.

Many were amused by her creativity, with a number saying the heels would “make a perfect gift for a bird lover”.

Another also added: “The designer must have some crazy imagination to think of such a concept.”

For Keiko, pigeon heels aren’t just a flight of fancy.
