Japanese content creator @sora_fula on TikTok recently left the internet in stitches after she mistook the green rice flour jelly in cendol for noodles.

Sora, who is based in Malaysia, posted a video of herself attempting to cook a packet of cendol, which she dubbed “Malaysian ramen”.

“Why is it green?” she wondered aloud.

She started off by pan-frying garlic and beansprouts, before adding water, stock and soy sauce to create a broth. She then poured the entire packet of “noodles” into the broth, creating a bowl of cendol soup.

She was initially excited to taste her creation, but her expression quickly turned into one of puzzlement when she took her first bite.

“[Did I] boil it too much? It’s very soft…” said Sora, who wrote “Please teach me” in her caption.

Her mistake tickled many netizens, many of whom were kind enough to share their recipes for preparing cendol. They explained that cendol is a dessert which is always eaten cold, hence the soggy texture after it was boiled.

One netizen joked that she made “cendol goreng” while another said she broke the hearts of all cendol fans.
