Those into K-pop would be familiar with fan cafe events.
Fansites host parties, usually for an idol’s birthday or anniversary, at a cafe where fans gather and mingle.
While we’ve seen plenty of such events, also called cupsleeve events, organised for well-loved stars, this Christmas weekend saw one fan cafe held in honour for an idol from a different league — Jesus Christ. It was his birthday after all.
The event, which took place in a cosy cafe in Daehang-no, Seoul, was a Christmas celebration like no other.
Fan-made posters and illustrations of Jesus lined the walls, and drinks were served in cups and straws that had JC’s likeness on them.
Visitors could take photos with a life-sized Jesus standee and join their hand with his to make a heart. There was also a Jesus-themed photo booth and a image of Jesus on the cover of Vogue.
Basically the big man himself was envisioned as a K-pop idol, with some netizens referring to him as “Jesus Oppa”.
“When is he going to have his next comeback?” joked a netizen.
