“SM Lee Hsien Loong” and “Jordan Chan’s son” are words we never expected to see appear in the same sentence. Yet somehow, the Internet has surprised us once again.
Recently, the 11-year-old boy, who’s the son of the Hong Kong actor and his Taiwanese-born Hong Kong actress wife Cherrie Ying, held his first TEDx talk.
Jasper spoke in English for close to 10 minutes, and completely wowed the audience with his sense of humour, confidence and eloquence.
The talk, titled “Embrace the spotlight”, also delved into Jasper’s life as the child of celeb parents and the pressure he’s under.
Jasper is now studying at the Yew Chung International School of Shanghai and he explained that his family is slightly different from others as he is a “famous’ guy’s son”.
He enjoyed being in the spotlight until he realised that his every move was scrutinised by the public.
Despite that, he chose to divert the pressure into a tool for “self-improvement and motivation”.
Jasper also shared that his father is actually very shy and a thoughtful person, and would spend all his free time on Jasper and his four-year-old younger brother, Ho Ho.
He went on to open up about his life after his showbiz debut on 2013 hit Chinese reality programme, Where Are We Going, Dad?.
“We are all the main characters in our lives, and we need to learn to embrace being under the spotlight,” he said.
Netizens, like us, were impressed by how well-spoken Jasper is for his age, with one complimenting the kid for sounding “like Lee Hsien Loong giving a speech”.
Now that’s high praise.
