If you’re of a certain age, you’d associate K-pop with BoA, which is pronounced as “bow” and “uh”.

Before we all got obsessed with K-Pop, most of us only knew BoA.

And the legend is coming to Singapore.

K-pop legend BoA is set to hold her first solo concert in Singapore this November.

The announcement was made on 8 August via her official account on X, revealing the stops for her upcoming tour, BoA: One’s Own.

The tour will kick off in Seoul in October, followed by performances in Taipei and Jakarta, before arriving in Singapore. BoA’s concert is scheduled for 30 November at The Star Theatre, though ticketing details are yet to be disclosed.

Initially Coming to Singapore in 2020

The 37-year-old was initially supposed to perform in Singapore at the One Love Asia Festival in 2020, but the event was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

She last performed in Singapore in 2012 as part of the SMTown Live World Tour III, which featured other SM Entertainment stars like Super Junior, Shinee, and Girls’ Generation.

BoA, born Kwon Bo-ah, debuted at 13 under SM Entertainment in 2000. She is celebrated as one of the pioneers of the Hallyu wave, particularly for popularizing K-pop in Japan. BoA made history as the first South Korean artist to top Japan’s Oricon chart with her debut Japanese album, Listen To My Heart (2002). In 2009, she broke new ground as the first K-pop singer to enter the US Billboard 200 chart with her English album, BoA, which peaked at No. 127.

Widely hailed as the Queen of K-pop, BoA has sold over 10 million albums and is considered one of the most successful female solo artists in K-pop history.

Rumours of Retirement

On 6 April 2024, BoA uploaded a message on Instagram saying “I guess it’s okay to ‘finish a work out’ after my contract ends”, where she clarified that “finish a work out” was a typo that was meant to say “retirement”.

This sparked retirement rumors among fans.

In response to the growing concerns, BoA later reassured fans the next day that her contract with SM Entertainment doesn’t end until 31 December 2025. She stated, “Until then, I will happily give my all as singer BoA. Don’t worry, my dear Jumping BoAs (BoA’s fandom).”

Following the cryptic posts hinting at retirement, BoA deleted all her posts on Instagram on April 10, further fueling the rumors.

As of now, her Instagram account, which has 4.2 million followers, is still empty.
