Man, 61, Quits Smoking After 40 Years So He Can Donate His Kidney To His Son

A 61-year-old man from Malaysia has proven that parents will do anything for their kids.

Mohamad Zulkifli, a 27-year-old doctor from Kelantan, was diagnosed with kidney failure four years ago.

Speaking to Malaysian media WeirdKaya, Dr Zulkifli said he discovered his condition in 2020, when he “started experiencing symptoms like vomiting and dizziness”.

He was in the midst of finishing up his university education and had to undergo peritoneal dialysis four times a day.

That’s when Dr Zulkifli’s dad, Ayub Abdul Ghani, stepped in to give him a better chance at life.

Ayub wanted to donate his kidney to his son but he was a smoker and had been one for 40 years.

So he decided to quit smoking to be an eligible donor.

According to Dr Zulkifli, his dad “reduced his smoking bit by bit”, and managed to completely kick the habit three months before the transplant.

Dr Zulkifli posted a video of his dad doing a spirometry test the day before the transplant, in which he wrote “My Hero”.

Netizens were touched by the love Ayub has for his son, with some also sharing the sacrifices their parents have made for them.

The pair recently had the surgery done at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, and it was a success.

Ayub said he “wasn’t nervous about the procedure”, and he simply wanted his son to have the best life he could.

Who’s cutting onions?
