Mayday Fan Falls For Singapore Concert Ticket Scam Twice, Ends Up Listening To Gig Outside National Stadium

It’s never a fun experience participating in a ticketing war to watch your favourite artistes live.

It’s even worse when you fail to get tickets, and have to resort to buying them from scalpers or resellers online.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, but sometimes these plans can totally backfire.

Unfortunately, that’s what happened to a Mayday fan who thought they had scored tickets to the band’s gig this past weekend at the National Stadium.

Yesterday (Jan 14), a local TikToker, who goes by the handle sghabibi, shared a video of themselves listening to — not watching — Mayday’s concert from outside the stadium.

The clip shows the TikToker waving a lightstick while Mayday’s Ashin can be heard singing ‘Suddenly Missing You So Bad’ (突然好想你). In the background is the entrance of the stadium.

“Cat 10 free view ‘cos kena scam not ONCE but TWICE wtf,” read the on-screen text.

Sghabibi elaborated on the unfortunate situation in their caption.

“So story goes is that I arrived pretty early around 6.30pm to the gate to enter only to find out that the first ticket I’ve bought have already been scanned in MULTIPLE times and there was a couple in front of the gate with the exact SAME barcode as my first ticket,” they wrote.

In a last-ditch effort to still attend the concert, they then proceeded “to get a ticket which was actually in a much better section”.

Though they did not elaborate how they managed to get another ticket in such a short period of time, our best guess is that they bought it from a listing online.

“Upon reaching the gate those tixs have also been scanned in before. Aiya give up just not my luck and a clear sign to not see [Mayday] this year already,” they continued.

Sghabibi then saw people outside the stadium “vibing” and decided to join in and catch the concert from outside.

They were surprised that “the sound [was] actually not bad” from the spot they chose.

They also added that they “now know where to camp for the upcoming Coldplay and Taylor Swift shows”.

Talk about looking on the bright side, right?

Netizens were mostly sympathetic of Sghabibi’s plight, with some suggesting that they should’ve gotten tickets from the actual site, since there were some still available for the second day of the show.

“Just buy from official website next time. If cannot buy/ sold out then the universe is saying don’t go…” advised another netizen.

Some also reminded fellow netizens to never buy tickets from scalpers or third parties, unless they are willing to provide a physical ticket. We can’t agree more.
