Michelle Yeoh Actually Responded To Woman Who DM-ed Her To Borrow Her SAG Awards Gown For Daughter’s Wedding

They say you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, and one Philadelphia mum is certainly living by that motto.

Earlier this month, Tracy Kauffman-Wood, 69, went viral on TikTok after her daughter, Amity, shared a video about her reaching out to Malaysian Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh on Facebook.

The reason? She wanted to borrow the Armani Privé gown the star wore to the 2025 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards to Amity’s upcoming nuptials in October.

The silk organza sheer gown, covered with silk tulle and embroidered with hand-painted floral details and crystals, is from Armani Privé’s spring-summer 2025 collection.

“That gown really struck me as something I would be thrilled to wear,” Tracy told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview, adding that she and the star looked like they were “the same size”.

“What did I have to lose?” said Tracy, who successfully borrowed a dress for her own wedding back in 1987.

She added that celebrities seem “so close by” these days with social media, and she didn’t even need to write or mail a fan letter to Michelle’s agent the “old school” way.

“If I could reach her easily, why not? Would she be charmed by my request? The worst she could do is ignore me, if she ever even saw my message,” Tracy averred.

Amity, however, did try to explain to her mum that though Michelle wore the gown to the awards ceremony, it’s likely that she doesn’t own it.

Michelle has caught wind of the request and responded on Instagram Story that she was “so flattered” that the “fabulous and fearless” Tracy loved her gown.

And like Amity reckoned, she doesn’t have the dress with her.

“The dress is the brilliant handiwork of Armani Privé (and sadly not in my closet!) Wishing the loving couple the most beautiful, magical wedding, and Tracy, the perfect mother of the bride!” wrote Michelle.

Well, at least Tracy tried, right?
