This year’s Miss Hong Kong Pageant saw 23-year-old undergrad Ellyn Ngai take home the crown.
Given how popular the competition is, Ellyn and her fellow contestants have become Hong Kong’s most-talked about women.
Finding herself making the news too is first runner-up Emily Leung, 22.
A recent viral video on Facebook shows Emily in the studio recording a cover of Stefanie Sun’s 2003 hit ‘Encounter’.
Sadly, the moment Emily opens her mouth, it becomes obvious that singing is not a talent she possesses.
Not only was she out of tune, Emily, who grew up in Vancouver, struggled with the pronunciation of the Chinese lyrics and had trouble hitting the high notes.
“It’s okay that she had the courage to sing, but having the guts to post it is another thing,” wrote one netizen.
Another said: “It might be better if she had just read the lyrics out [instead of singing them].”
Yikes. We’re sure reading the comments must have hurt Emily’s feelings… as much as our ears did listening to her sing.
