Miss HK Contestant Accused Of Bribery After Putting Up Ad Promising Free Seafood To Those Who Vote For Her

In Singapore, fans who vote for their favourite celebs can stand to win free meals or trips to Korea and Shanghai.

In Hong Kong, you get free seafood.

Recently, a netizen shared on Xiao Hong Shu that they had come across a giant  poster of Miss Hong Kong 2024 contestant Savannah Chen, 24, on the wall of a mall in Jiangmen, China.

“I saw this super big poster canvassing for votes at Yingbin Avenue today! I got a shock. I don’t think people used to do this,” she added.

The poster read: “Vote for Miss Hong Kong. Get free seafood”.

“Any paying customer of Zhen Fang Hai Xian Zhou Cheng who successfully casts a vote [for Savannah Chen] will get a free portion of seafood,” they wrote in a smaller print at the bottom of the poster.

The ad has led to netizens accusing Savannah of bribery.

“As someone from Jiangmen, even I find this very silly,” chastised one netizen.

Another berated: “This is a disgrace to our city.”

To make things worse, the poster had the words “tvb.com” and the Miss Hong Kong 2024 logo printed on it, which can be considered a tort if TVB did not grant permission.

The annual Hong Kong beauty pageant has been plagued with scandals since it kicked off earlier this year.

Previously, it was reported that six contestants, which include hot faves Huang Yan, Caroline, and Christina Zhao, had withdrawn from the competition.

A few of them took to their socials to announce their withdrawal, and unanimously revealed that they’d pulled out of the contest as they didn’t want to sign TVB’s “strict” contract.

It was also reported that a delegate, Kelly Kwok, is secretly signed to another company, while another, Ellyn Ngai, once released a photo book with sexy photos and isn’t as “pure” as she made herself seem during the competition.

Looks like TVB can save a lot of money on publicity for the pageant this year.
