Monkey Steals Woman’s Bananas At S’pore Zoo, Gets Fat-Shamed

If you’ve never chanced upon a monkey during a nature hike in Singapore, chances are you would know someone who has.

A Xiaohongshu user, who goes by the surname Hu, recently had the chance to be up close and personal with one pesky primate. But no, it wasn’t the cute photo op you’re expecting.

She was visiting the Singapore Zoo with her helper and toddler son when a monkey approached their pram.

Standing tall on its hind limbs, the monkey first reached for the Ziploc bag under the pram’s seat. Realising it did not contain food, the monkey then expertly unzipped the small bag hanging from the pram’s handle. It fished out a banana with its hand, and a second one with its mouth.

“Oh no! My banana!” the woman shouted as she filmed the incident.

The monkey then hopped a few steps away from the pram, before sitting down to devour its loot.

She followed the monkey, telling it: “This is the banana I brought to eat. Is it yummy? Why are you finishing my bananas? I brought these for the baby.”

The monkey ignored her, deftly peeling the banana’s skin before devouring it.

She then zoomed in on the monkey, which had the number 240 on its tummy.

“Do you belong to the zoo?” asked the woman. “You’re so fat! Do you always do naughty things? Do you often steal?”

The monkey clearly could not care less about the woman and turned its back towards her.

Two bananas were evidently not enough for the monkey as it approached the pram again. The woman and her helper quickly moved away while the monkey climbed on a signboard to await its next victim.

Netizens were amused by the monkey’s antics, with some sharing their own experiences.

“I bought popcorn, but before I even got to eat it, it got snatched away by a monkey. The monkeys in Singapore are really too fierce,” wrote one netizen.

Another netizen also recalled running into a monkey at the zoo but was told by a zookeeper that it was wild as it was not tagged with a number. She was advised to “watch out for her safety” around the monkey.

Other netizens also addressed the woman’s behaviour. “You’re very brave. You had such a long conversation with it. I would be afraid of it pouncing on me,” read one comment.

Well, we guess two bananas in exchange for a viral video is worth it?
