While many attend the National Day Parade (NDP) rehearsals to catch the breathtaking aerial displays and live performances of our favourite National Day tunes, it seems there’s one more aspect to the show audiences are now looking out for — the stand-ins.
Remember last year, when two stand-ins went viral for their uncanny resemblance to former President Halimah Yacob and Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong? Or when Olivia Ong’s stand-in was praised for lip-synching to ‘Ru Yan’ perfectly?
Well, this year, the stand-in for President Tharman has gone viral. And for one reason: He’s eye candy.
A TikTok featuring the President’s stand-in, shared by user @mysharrrr_2.0, was captioned: “I can’t be the only one who thinks so bro like dayuuuummmm. (sic)”
She was not the only one who noticed the stand-in’s good looks the moment the camera zoomed in on him at the rehearsals this past weekend.
Those who attended the show agreed with her, with many taking to the comments to collectively gush over how he’s “so fine”.
“Whoever attended the rehearsal, I am jealous of you,” read a popular comment that has received over a thousand likes.
“Two of my classmates [who] said that the president is more handsome than all K-pop dudes,” wrote another netizen.
Who would have guessed that a stand-in could become so popular over one weekend?
Another comment mentioned that the NDP organisers should have asked Shawn Thia to be the stand-in for PM Lawrence Wong. And you know what? We would like to see that happen.
