M’sian Designer Refuses To Stock Clothes In Sizes Bigger Than XL: “Health Is More Important Than Fashion”

And you thought society was becoming more inclusive towards all shapes and sizes.

Malaysian fashion designer Datuk Radzuan Radziwill has come under fire for saying he will not offer larger sizes for his clothes. He claimed that “size XL is large enough” and explained that he does not want to encourage customers to opt for larger sizes.

Defending his stance in an interview with news outlet Majoriti, he says that he wants to educate the public on the importance of living healthily.

“Health is more important than fashion,” he said.

While Radzuan’s designs are a regular feature among Malaysian royalty, there’s no word if he would put the same size restrictions on his VIP customers.

He also said that he has no intention in creating a more affordable range and cites his use of high-quality fabrics, meticulous handwork and original prints.

Radzuan’s designs range between RM530 to RM680 (S$159 to S$204).

Netizens weren’t amused with what they heard with many asking Radzuan to get himself educated and appreciating a real women’s curves.

“Everyone is built differently. Some trim individuals can’t even wear XL due to their bone structure. It not even about being fat,” said a netizen.

However, some brushed off Radzuan’s controversial statement as a poor attempt at getting attention.

“He can have his opinion, we can choose to respond by not supporting such an ignorant relic,” wrote one netizen.

In a more cutting response, one even quipped, “He looks quite chubby himself. Are you sure he doesn’t wear XXL?”

Ouch.
