M’sian Man, 38, Freed From Scam Compound Because He Didn’t Know How To Use Computers

It seems the abduction and release of Chinese actor Wang Xing has shined a light on similar cases.

A 38-year-old Malaysian man was reported to have been released from a scam syndicate in Cambodia after admitting he didn’t know how to use a computer and has a poor command of English.

Maybe everyone should just pretend to be computer illiterate now.

The man, a single father, was deceived by a ‘friend’ to travel to Cambodia on November 4 last year to take up a job as a private driver

According to the ‘friend’, he was promised he could earn up to US$5K (S$6.8K) a month.

Instead, he was taken to a scam compound upon his arrival.

After being deemed unfit to be a part of the scam organisation, the man shared that he was then left to wander around the area freely and given basic food and accommodation.

He lost 20kg during the time he was held captive. It was not revealed how long he was in captivity for.

The man managed to contact a friend in Johor Bahru for help, who then informed the former’s mum.

It is not known how he managed to reach out to his friend for help.

His mum then filed a report with the Malaysian International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) who went on contact the Cambodian authorities.

According to the man, his kidnappers must have seen missing reports of him and gave him a tongue lashing before returning his passport and allowing him to leave.

He along with two other captives from Malaysia were then allowed to leave.
