Who is Simplify?

Simplify is an app that lets users buy and sell excess internet bandwidth from their home broadband and mobile plans, turning everyone into a mini Internet Service Provider. With dynamic encryption creating secure hotspot passwords, the startup makes internet access seamless and secure.

Ranked among the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company in 2017, Simplify is shaking up the broadband industry with its unique marketplace model. It is the only Malaysian company on the list.

They started off with a B2B approach, selling directly to corporates. But after waiting ages for contracts, they began rethinking their strategy.

Its founder Yen Pei Tay decided to switch things up and turn Simplify into a C2C business, helping people resell their mobile internet, with some great advice from mentors and investors at the Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp by Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The technology has since been granted a US patent.

A launchpad for success

The GMP has been a key driver in Simplify’s journey. This platform helps innovative companies with commercialisation strategies and international market access.

Since 2021, the GMP has supported 90 companies, 20 of which have achieved significant success.

A recent highlight for Simplify is its partnership with True Internet Corporation Co. Ltd., a major Thai telecommunications company. This collaboration marks a significant step in Simplify’s expansion strategy.

“Together, Simplify’s pioneering wireless technology is poised for greater impact and global reach,” said TIPM CEO Datuk Wira Dr Hj. Rais Hussin Hi Mohamed Ariff.

Safuan Zairi, TIPM’s chief ecosystem development officer, added, “The GMP bridges the gap between local innovations and international markets. The success of our participants, highlighted by Simplify’s recent achievements, reflects the effectiveness of our approach in nurturing a thriving tech ecosystem.”

A commitment to future innovations

Simplify is not slowing down. In October 2023, the company won the excellence award at the China Overseas Talents Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in Hefei, China.

This award-winning technology supports an innovative broadband-sharing economy, making wireless internet more accessible and building a sustainable networked society.

The startup is also exploring new areas like precision farming and digital tourism, where its solutions could lead to transformative changes.

Looking ahead, Simplify is dedicated to advancing its tech offerings and exploring new markets. The launch of a new 5G router on May 17 this year is a testament to its ongoing expansion.

It is committed to ensuring that its innovations reach a global audience, contributing to the technological empowerment of users worldwide.

This recognition at the ZGC Forum, along with Simplify’s continuous drive for innovation, highlights Malaysia’s growing influence in the global tech landscape and the nation’s commitment to fostering innovative technological advancements.
