It’s okay to want to be pampered by your other half but where do we draw the line?
One Malaysian woman took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to ask: “Is it wrong if I can afford to buy the new iPhone 16 fully in cash ‘cos I don’t have many commitments, but I still want my boyfriend to buy it for me? My BF cannot afford the full payment. He can only afford to do monthly instalments which stretch up to 36 months. Am I selfish?”
To put it simply, the woman would rather put her boyfriend in debt for three years than buy the phone with her own money.
Her post has since gone viral, drawing the ire of many.
The iPhone 16 costs upwards of S$1,599, while the most expensive iPhone 16 Pro model goes well above S$2K.
Enraged netizens have since called for the woman’s boyfriend to “reconsider their relationship”.
Many said the woman did not care about her boyfriend’s situation, with others calling her “selfish” and “immature”. Some also accused her of being a “gold digger”.
“She probably posted this for attention. She should be talking to a therapist or a friend about this instead of posting it on the internet for all to see,” read a response.
“Please take care of your own needs and well-being first,” was a message directed at the girl’s boyfriend.
What do you think of her behaviour? Red flag, or red flag?
