As far as accidents go, it’s hard to get a more spectacular one than this.
Multi-Car Accident with NDP Fireworks Display
A chain collision of cars occurred on the ECP at Benjamin Sheares Bridge on 20 July, captured on Instagram.
Three cars had smashed into each other on two of the lanes, broken metal strewn across the road.
One seemingly unharmed vehicle also stopped behind the pile-up.
Passing motorists were then treated to the sight of fireworks going off behind them as if celebrating the crash.
“Holy shit!” One of the people in the passing vehicles could be heard saying, although it’s unclear if she was referring to the crashes or the fireworks. Probably both.
As it turns out, the fireworks in the accident video were part of a rehearsal for the National Day Parade (NDP).
A group of motorists involved in the involuntary sudden parking could be seen standing at the road divider on the bridge, having a “front-row” view of the display.
I suppose it’s a small silver lining to the whole mess.
Two kind people also stood behind the unharmed car, waving vehicles along with a phone flashlight to prevent another collision.
Though without context, it almost seemed like they were overtaken with patriotic fervour at the fireworks display and celebrating it.
2 Taken to Hospital After Chain Collision Accident
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Goody Feed that they were alerted to the accident at about 8:10 pm on 20 July.
They conveyed two people to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, while four others suffered minor injuries and declined to be taken.
20 July is a scheduled date for a National Education (NE) show, which is when you’re in Primary Five and you get to go watch the rehearsal with your rowdy classmates.
An NDP rehearsal actually takes place tonight (22 July) as well, so if you want fireworks at your car wreck, you know the time and place.
This wasn’t the first accident involving NDP fireworks either, as last year, a girl was allegedly burnt by sparks from the display.
Over in TikTok, there’s a drama involving property agents that’s caused by us. Here’s what happened:
