Last month, former TVB actress Nancy Wu, 43, went IG official with her doctor beau.
Although she remained tight-lipped about his identity, Hong Kong media later revealed that Nancy’s boyfriend is Akin Chen. He reportedly comes from a well-to-do family, and is younger than Nancy.
A graduate from Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Akin joined Doctors Without Borders in 2012, and has made trips to war zones to perform life-saving surgeries.
Recently, a netizen claiming to be Akin’s junior from CUHK Medical Centre took to Threads to share more details about him.
He wrote: “Besides being highly capable, [Akin] also has the kind of dedication and spirit of sacrifice that far surpasses others. He participated in Doctors Without Borders seven times, with each mission lasting from as short as two months to two years. His work has taken him to some of the world’s poorest and most unexpected places — Sudan, Syria, and Haiti.”
He ended with a not-so-subtle dig at Nancy: “I don’t know how Nancy Wu has managed to hold on to this senior of mine.”
This post quickly gained attention online, sparking discussions about the junior’s tone.
Many came to Nancy’s defense, calling the remark “disrespectful” and unnecessary.
“Even if you want to praise your senior, there’s no need to bring up his relationship. Who are you to them?” one netizen questioned.
Another angry comment read: “Their dating life is their business, outsiders don’t need to understand.”
Nancy’s supporters also pointed out that she regularly does charity work, and was just in Ethiopia last year on a humanitarian visit.
Meanwhile, a nurse who previously worked with Akin in the hospital also shared a social media post commending his personality.
Describing him as a “rare gem” in the medical field, she congratulated Nancy on “finding an outstanding boyfriend.”
