A parakeet in China has taken the internet by storm with its hilariously endearing attempt to communicate with an image of a parrot — printed on its own food packaging.
In a now-viral clip shared by its owner on Xiaohongshu, the little bird is seen pressing its beak right up against the picture, chirping and squawking as if expecting a reply.
Despite the one-sided conversation, the determined parakeet refuses to give up on befriending its new ‘companion’.
The video quickly racked up over 13,000 likes, prompting the owner to share updates on the bird’s unwavering mission.
So far, the parrot on the package remains silent, but that hasn’t dampened the parakeet’s enthusiasm.
Netizens were amused by how enamoured the parakeet appeared to be with the image, with some joking that it’s trying to “sneak a kiss”.
Others playfully speculated that the parakeet is “experiencing love for the first time” or simply feeling lonely.
“Please find your parakeet a mate now,” pleaded one netizen.
Some also likened the parakeet’s behaviour to that of fans obsessing over photo cards and posters of their idols.
“I really want to know what it’s saying,” one curious commenter wrote.
But the best response? A hilariously candid confession from a fellow romantic:
“That’s how I am with my cardboard cutout wife.”
Well, some of us fall in love with handsome stars on our TV screens, so perhaps this is just the bird’s equivalent of eye-candy?
