Peacocks Seen Taking Shelter From The Heavy Rain At Sentosa Bus Stop

We’ve been experiencing nonstop rain since Jan 10, and while some Singaporeans are loving the sweater weather, others have had their weekend plans completely disrupted.

The unseasonably wet weather, caused by a monsoon surge, has not only sent outdoorsy people looking for shelter, local wildlife has had enough of getting soaked, too.

Over the weekend, a netizen shared a video of peacocks taking shelter from the downpour at a Sentosa bus stop.

Sentosa is known to be home to some 60 peacocks and peahens, the largest population of the species in Singapore.

The creatures, usually majestic and colourful, looked uncharacteristically still as they waited out the rain. Three were seen perched on the bus stop benches, while one stood atop a dustbin.

Frankly, it was difficult to tell the peahens and peacocks apart, what with their feathers all damp and flattened by the water.

We’re guessing the one with a slightly more colourful appearance, standing a step higher than the rest on the dustbin, is the proud male of the muster.

Many were amused to see the peacocks hiding from the rain, with a netizen joking: “The peafowls in Sentosa have no choice but to take the bus now.”

Another netizen also shared that due to the wet weather, the mynas too, have set up a temporary home on his window ledge. At least he’s hoping it’s temporary.

According to PUB, the monsoon surge is expected to end today (Jan 13).

While we all keep warm and cosy in our homes, hopefully the stray cats, dogs, and wildlife in Singapore are able to find safe shelter during this period as well.
