Several major companies in the Philippines including health maintenance organisation Maxicare, Jollibee Foods Corporation and Maritime industry authority (Marina) has suffered data breaches exposing customer records.

Maxicare on June 19, confirmed a data breach that exposed personal information of 13,000 members representing less than 1 percent of its membership base.

According to its website, the firm has more than 20,000 affiliated doctors and specialists linked with over 1,300 hospitals and clinics, over 700 dental clinics and 140 rehabilitation, dialysis, and eye centres.

It now services over 1.8 million members across the country from corporate segment, small and medium-sized enterprises to families and individuals.

The exposed records are believed to be of those who used Lab@Home, a booking platform of their third-party home-care provider.

“Compromised information may include those used for booking requests, but no sensitive medical information was exposed,” the company said in a statement.

It added that Lab@Home maintained a separate database for booking requests, which is not integrated with Maxicare’s system.

The company also affirmed customers that its business operations, network, and customer data has not been impacted in any way.

Maxicare has currently implemented emergency measures to ensure privacy and safety of members who are possibly affected.

The breach was first announced in a facebook post by cybersecurity group Deep Web Konek, estimating 33 megabytes of compromised data.

Jollibee Foods Corporation

Deep Web Konek also shared information of an alleged data breach involving Philippines’ largest fast-food chain, Jollibee Foods Corporation.

The group said the breach may have exposed personal data of 32 million customers and 650 million records related to the Jollibee’s food delivery operations.

The compromised data reportedly includes sensitive customer information such as names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and hashed passwords.

Additionally, extensive records of food delivery orders, sales transactions, and service details have been exposed.

“The compromised data also spans multiple tables, indicating a broad and deep breach of Jollibee’s systems,” the group said.

Jollibee has not yet released an official statement on the breach.

Philippines Maritime industry authority had also reported that four of its web-based systems were attacked and compromised on June 16.

Marina said concerned officials and employees were immediately deployed at its central office to implement measures to ensure the protection of the integrity of the systems.
