Reports of a rift between two began to surface after Cyndi saw a resurgence in popularity following her win on Chinese reality talent show Sisters Who Make Waves 3 in 2022.
According to a Weibo post that’s been making the rounds online, Rainie told friends that “Cyndi is not as capable as [her]”.
The post also pointed out that the root cause of their fallout was because the two stars are signed with the same agency in China, but Rainie’s concerts were not as popular as Cyndi’s.
Rainie’s performance on singing competition Singer 2024 also fell short of expectations, leading to a wave of negative feedback.
As a result, some commercial performances proposed replacing her with Cyndi, causing a major dispute between their camps.
The blogger also said that the two will soon unfollow each other on social media.
While some netizens did not seem surprised by the news, saying Rainie “lacks tact”, others were skeptical.
“Such rumours have been around since the noughties and Rainie and Cyndi’s friendship has remained unchanged,” noted one fan.
