Chinese model Carina Zhang, the 35-year-old wife of Hong Kong star Raymond Lam, 45, has drawn criticism for the way she handled her nanny’s last day on the job.
The controversy unfolded when Carina was demonstrating a make-up tutorial on live stream. The nanny entered the room to inform Carina that her ride had arrived and that she was leaving.
Instead of a simple farewell, Carina told the nanny to hand over her luggage to Carina’s mother for inspection.
Sounding slightly surprised, the nanny responded that someone else, presumably the new nanny, had already checked it.
However, Carina remained firm. “Yes, just let my mum look through [your luggage]. That has always been the procedure,” she insisted.
The nanny complied and after checking on her wages, which Carina promised to transfer after the live stream, she prepared to leave.
But just as the nanny was about to step out, Carina called out for her again.
Walking to the door, Carina could be heard asking the nanny to “clean the bathroom upstairs” as she had just washed her hair.
This last-minute request did not sit well with netizens, who accused Carina of making the nanny work until the very last minute.
They also called her disrespectful and an “unreasonable employer”.
“She married into fortune, and now she thinks she’s all that,” read one criticism.
Carina and Raymond tied the knot in 2019 and have one daughter, Luna, who turns five this year.
Carina has, on several occasions, found herself the target of malicious comments.
When she started dating Raymond, she was accused of being a gold digger and having an ulterior motive for being with him.
