Rejected SQ Flight Attendant Applicant Shares Interview Process

If you know of someone who’s applying to be a flight attendant with Singapore Airlines, please share this story with them.

Recently, netizen Mr Wang on Xiaohongshu took to the platform to share that they had gone for an interview to be an SQ flight attendant but unfortunately did not get the job.

Mr Wang shared that applicants have to go through three rounds of selections.

For the first, interviewees have their heights measured. Women who are below 1.58m will not be allowed to proceed to the next round.

In the second round, interviewees are split into groups of six following which they will engage in a three-on-three debate.]

Each applicant have to give a self-introduction first before going into their argument.

The topics for debate on Mr Wang’s interview day included:

A) Should one get married early or late?
B) Are looks or intellect more important?
C) Is it better to spend or save?
D) Should the legal age to vote be lowered to 16 years old?

There was also a separate group who asked applicants to find and discuss two similarities between themselves and others in the group.

For Mr Wang, he was asked to argue in favour of late marriage. Coincidentally, all three applicants who argued for the same claim could proceed to the next stage while the opposing ones did not.

Mr Wang, however, said that there were some groups that saw four or five applicants making it into the next round.

For the third round, applicants were interviewed by two SQ hiring officers.

There, interviewees have to introduce themselves again and share why they want to join the airline.

They also have to show their understanding of the job scope as well as share the sentiments of their family members about them taking on the job.

On top of that, interviewers also asked the question: “Why should we hire you?”

Mr Wang shared that there was where he failed to progress to the next round. He, however, heard from others that applicants were checked for nail hygiene and tattoos.

The post quickly piqued the curiosity of netizens, and Mr Wang also replied to some of them saying that the interviews were conducted entirely in English.

“Since when did SQ do debates?,” asked one netizen while another commented: “They were probably trying to test how adaptable you are”.

8days.sg has reached out to an SQ flight attendant who verified the interview process.

He also said “most airline interviews are conducted this way”.

Now you know what you must do if you want to become an SQ flight attendant.
