After a one-year delay, Cantopop Queen Sammi Cheng finally kicked off her 13-show You & Mi World Tour at the Hong Kong Coliseum last Friday (Jul 12).
The 51-year-old was forced to postpone her concert last July as she was suffering from Covid-19 symptoms.
Sammi, who took a seven-month hiatus to recuperate, joked that for the past year, she felt like a “bride preparing for every detail for her awaited wedding” and thanked fans for not refunding their tickets.
The star brought her A-game, performing 38 songs in three hours. And no Sammi Cheng concert is complete without some showstopping outfits – 16 to be exact.
Among the head-turning looks were a white avant-garde nun-inspired outfit that netizens compared to the pages of an open book… and kway teow, as well as a pink floral costume that was likened to a lotus lamp (see pics below).
But what stole the show was Sammi’s husband Andy Hui’s surprise appearance near the end of the concert.
Sammi was performing Andy’s hit ‘Fireworks at the End of the Century’, when the lights suddenly came on and accompanying her on the piano at the far end of the stage was Andy.
He joined her in the song and though there was no interaction between the couple, Andy’s short performance drew cheers from the audience.
According to reports, Andy will make an appearance in all of Sammi’s remaining shows.
This is the couple’s first public appearance since Andy was embroiled in a cheating scandal in 2019.
He was filmed kissing former TVB actress Jacqueline Wong in a taxi in April 2019.
Despite this, Sammi publicly forgave Andy. The couple had an on-and-off relationship for 20 years before they got hitched in 2013.
