It’s that bit of the year between Christmas and New Year when all is quiet on the cycling front. There are a few ‘cross races for the hardcore underway, but usually, cycling news is thin on the ground. This makes it a perfect time to delve into our favorite gear of the year. And today, it’s my turn.
This year’s riding has been involving small people more and more. I’ve two little girls; the smallest has taken to the balance bike that the big one outgrew a few years back, and the big girl has taken to a 16-inch bike as well as I could have dreamed of.
As a proud dad, the most memorable ride I’ve had his year was the intended 15km spin to a riverside cafe with my girls, one in the trailer and one on her new bike. But due to the café not updating its Google reviews page, that 15km rapidly turned into a 30km “kid epic.” We eventually found a café with ice cream and frites and returned with a little girl desperate to call her granddad and boast about her “big day out.” But there have been other rides, not quite as memorable, and most of my stuff covers those jaunts, the stuff that I’ve turned to time and time again.
I’ve thrown my two favorite bikes into the mix, bringing my total of goodies for the year up to 12. Unlike my colleagues, I’ve done it in my favorite medium, a little video; after all, if you are anything like me, you’ve turned to some cycling content right now because you can’t face another festive-themed film on Netflix. That or you need something to distract you from tucking into your third box of luxury Mince pies.
Either way, I hope you enjoy my top 10 road bits ‘n’ bobs for 2023. I think there’s a tasty variety of goodies in there. Oh, and come back later this week as I’ve cobbled together a round-up of my favorite gravel gear from 2023.
Cheers for watching.
