Singapore Airlines rolls out new benefits for KrisFlyer Silver members, increases seat selection fees

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has rolled out new benefits for its KrisFlyer Elite Silver members this month, even as it has seemingly increased its fees for seat selection.

KrisFlyer Elite Silver members can now avail of priority airport check-in and priority boarding on SIA flights. They will also get an increased luggage allowance of 10kg or one extra piece of luggage on all SIA flights and connecting Scoot flights to and from the United States (three bags of up to 32kg in SIA Suites, First and Business Class; and three bags of up to 23kg in Premium Economy and Economy Class).

Meanwhile, airline review website Mainlymiles has also pointed out SIA has hiked up its seat selection fees for Economy and Premium Economy Classes. A check on the airlines’ site revealed it was updated on Jul 1.

Starting this month, passengers have to pay more more for Standard and Forward Zone seats on all routes. There are increases as well for Extra Legroom seats on Southeast Asia and long-haul flights.

According to Mainlymiles, the price increase come less than three years after the airlines’ last seat selection fee adjustments in 2021.

Changes in seat selection fees vary across SIA’s flights, which it categorises by distance into five different “bands”.

For example, selecting a standard seat in Economy for Singapore flights to and from the region, such as Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, will now cost you US$10 (S$13.53), compared to US$8 previously. Extra legroom seats on Economy and Premium Economy are US$30, up from US$25.

For flights further abroad, from Singapore to and from Hong Kong, China, India, Japan or South Korea, for example, a standard seat in Economy costs US$15 (from US$10). There’s no change for extra legroom seats, which is still US$60.

Meanwhile, for Singapore flights to and from the US and Canada, it will cost US$35, up from US$25 for standard seats. If you want extra legroom on Economy and Premium Economy, it’s now US$130 from US$120.
