For many in Japan, 2024 started off with a devasting earthquake that struck central Japan, with the epicenter in Ishikawa prefecture.
The magnitude 7.6 quake destroyed buildings and knocked out power to thousands of homes. The disaster has killed at least 62 people.
For local comedian Kelvin Tan, better known as Mayiduo, he was in the middle of relieving himself at Osaka’s Legoland Discovery Center.
The 32-year-old, who is holidaying with his wife and their four-year-old son shared with the Straits Times his experience when the quake hit.
“I was in a confined space, and my vision started to blur while I was seated,” he said.
Kelvin suspected it was an earthquake and his first thought was to leave the place with his family.
“It reminded me of how we would feel the tremors in Singapore when there were quakes in Indonesia,” he told the Straits Times.
The influencer has since taken to Instagram to document the experience in a Reel.
“Brother, it’s the new year and it’s the first day. I am holidaying and just need to poop,” he jibed at the start of the clip.
Kelvin also took to describing where the earthquake took place and that a tsunami warning for Kyoto had been issued.
He also said there was no need for him and his family to evacuate and wished everyone in Japan to stay safe.
