Did you know there’s a Singapore Park in Xiamen, China?
Property agent Isaac Yee recently took to TikTok to give a tour of the park, showing a block of flats that will not look out of place at say, Waterloo Street.
Isaac said they were pioneer projects built in China and these six-storey buildings were modelled after the three-room flats of Singapore in the ’70s.
There is at least once difference though: none of these flats have elevators.
A Chinese netizen responded to this observation in the comments saying housing regulations stated that buildings no higher than six floors need not have lifts.
Isaac also showed off the common corridor which looked like it was in desperate need of a paint job.
Although he didn’t mention which Singapore-based developer built the flats, he later confirmed in the comments that the flats were constructed by Dragon Land Limited
Dragon Land Limited is publicly listed in Singapore and was founded by former Member of Parliament (MP) Peh Chin Hua.
Netizens had a host of questions for Isaac, with one jokingly asking when will these flats be eligible for en bloc.
In Singapore, en bloc refers to the sale of property where 80 per cent of residents have agreed to sell their homes.
Another observed that Singaporeans in the future will need to head to China to get a glimpse of our heritage.
One even asked why the buildings look so badly maintained to which Isaac replied that unlike Singapore, residents in China are responsible for the maintenance of their flats.
