Remember when Hong Kong actor Francis Ng, 62, appeared on 2014 Chinese reality show Where Are We Going Dad? 2 with his adorable five-year-old son, Feynman?
Well, Feynman is now 15, and has quite the following on Weibo. Interest in Feynman persisted after the show wrapped, and it didn’t take long for the teen to get over a million followers.
On Monday (Apr 8), he posted a funeral portrait of his dad taken from a scene in Infernal Affairs II.
He wrote: “Let me introduce myself again. My name is Wang Jing Wei and I don’t know who Francis Ng and Feynman Ng are, nor have I watched Memories Beyond Horizon. I have never attended school, am illiterate, and I work in a vinyl record shop. This message above was written by a speech-to-text function.”
TL;DR, Francis, who is a mentor on reality show Memories Beyond Horizon, harshly criticised Hong Kong actor Jacky Heung‘s acting on the show. The scene caused quite a stir amongst audiences, with many saying that Francis was “fearless” in judging Jacky’s performance so brutally.
Jacky is the son of influential veteran film producer Charles Heung.
Charles has long been rumoured to be connected to Sun Yee On, one of the leading triads in Hong Kong and China. It’s said his father was the founder of the triad.
Netizens believe that Feynman’s posting of the funeral portrait was done in response to the chatter surrounding his dad’s appearance on the variety show.
Many felt like Feynman had taken the “joke” too far, with some netizens wondering if he would get “beaten up by Francis” for the insensitive prank.
Feynman then cheekily replied that his dad wouldn’t hit him, because “he knows someone else will”.
Francis has since responded to Feynman’s now-deleted post, and it looks like he doesn’t find the joke funny either.
“My son Feynman has again gone viral on Weibo. Of course people might find this child’s nonsense to be funny, but as a parent, I’ve realised there’s something I need to teach him. That is to never use Weibo to seek attention, and to not live for validation from others. That’s a pathetic way to live!” said Francis on his own Weibo.
Guess someone’s getting grounded.
