Veteran comedian Moses Lim, best known for his role as patriarch Tan Ah Teck on ‘90s English sitcom Under One Roof, died on February 11 at the age of 75.
The news was posted on his Facebook page today (Feb 12): “Moses Lim, who brought endless laughter and joy to generations of Singaporeans, has taken his final bow, leaving behind a legacy that sparkles as brightly as his unforgettable smile.”
Actor Nicholas Lee, who played Moses’ son Ronnie in Under One Roof, paid tribute to his “second dad” on Facebook, writing: “My dearest Moses you are like the second dad I’ve lost, and the pain is indescribable. I shall treasure always and fondly the many moments we shared during those years of incredible joy. Unforgettable and irreplaceable. I’m so thankful to be able to share one last scene with you just last month. Sleep well Dad, love you always.”
Moses’ cause of death is not specified but he has suffered health issues in the past.
In 2018, he underwent heart surgery, which was met with complications, and he had to rely on a crutch to walk afterwards.
And in 2022, he was diagnosed with slow pulse rate. He was advised by his doctor to implant an artificial cardiac pacemaker, but Moses decided against it.
Moses, who has two daughters, became a household name as co-host on one of Singapore’s most iconic comedy shows Comedy Night alongside Jack Neo.
His popularity skyrocketed when he starred in Under One Roof, and he was the first actor and comedian to successfully cross over from the Mandarin to English channel.
He faded out of showbiz after his 2012 stage play Happily Ever Laughter and later became a food critic and F&B consultant.
