Local influencer Koh Boon Ki, aka boonkikikiki on TikTok, was dressed, in her words, as something “trendy, popular, and pricey” for this year’s Halloween.
And what’s more trendy, popular and pricey than the Labubu now?
In one of her videos, Boon Ki, 25, revealed she had forced her friends to dress up for their Halloween mahjong session, but realised she had nothing to wear.
She quickly came up with the idea of turning herself into a Labubu and so she drew its features, like the sharp pointy teeth, with black and white eyeliner on her face, tied her hair into space buns to mimic its ears, and then threw on a brown top to complete the look.
She also convinced her friends to pretend to sell her on live stream.
Her pal, former Mediacorp child star-turned-influencer Rachell Ng, stood beside a cardboard box and gave her best live streamer impression, shouting: “Only got one left ah!”
When Boon Ki popped out of the box after being sold for S$69.90, her friend shouted “I don’t want, put it back!”. Boon Ki was then pushed back in the box.
When 8days.sg reached out to Boon Ki, she told us she was inspired to create a Labubu look after seeing other Labubu make-up videos online, including one by her friend and fellow content creator, Daniel Ang.
She said it took her friends a while to guess who she was cosplaying as “they are not really fans of Labubu”.
“My friend said she had to do a double take as I was walking to her house because she couldn’t recognise me,” added Book Ki.
In case you’re wondering, no, Boon Ki is not a fan of the toy too, and doesn’t own any Labubu dolls.
When we asked how much she would cost if she were a real Labubu figure, she laughed: “I would be priceless ‘cos it would be limited edition.”
