Looks like “one more round” was not enough for Seong Gi-Hun.
Fans of Squid Game can rejoice as the Emmy-winning series is being renewed by Netflix for not one, but two new seasons.
After two years of waiting, the highly anticipated second season will be released on 26 December 2024.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s announcement
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk broke the news in a letter to fans.
“It’s been almost three years since Season 1 was met with incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events took place,” he wrote. “On the first day we began shooting Season 2, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.’ It almost felt surreal.”
In his letter, Hwang shared that the third and final season will premiere next year, in 2025.
The expedited release of the final season seems to corroborate rumours in the Korean media earlier this year that the two seasons were being shot back-to-back.

Season 2 Plot (Season 1 Spoilers Included)
Protagonist and winner of the first Squid Game, Seung Gi-Hun continues on his quest for revenge this year.
In the first season, Seung Gi-Hun emerged victorious but discovered that the game was created to entertain wealthy people, by pitting them against each other in their nostalgic childhood games for prize money.
When Gi-Hun encounters another player being recruited on his way to the airport to meet his daughter, he yanks away the player’s invitation card.
At the airport, before boarding his plane, Gi-Hun calls the number on the card to express his anger about the games. The Front Man, who is in charge of the games, intercepts the call and tells him to catch his flight, but Gi-Hun defiantly turns back.
Ending on this cliffhanger, it remains to be seen if Gi-Hun can track down those behind the game and get his revenge.
Time to begin the next game.
In the meantime, the internet is also fervently talking about MrBeast’s Squid-Game-style game show by Amazon Prime, but there has been negative press about it instead. Watch this to know more:
